Frequently Asked Questions: How to Prepare for Your First Therapy Session
Do you take insurance?
Yes, I do. I am an in-network provider for Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS). I also accept Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), which many of my clients use to cover sessions.
What if my insurance is something other than Blue Cross Blue Shield?
Unfortunately, I do not accept any other insurance carriers. If your insurance is anything other than BCBS, you will be considered “Self-pay.” One thing I suggest is to check with your insurance carrier and see if they will reimburse you for out-of-network providers. If so, I can provide you with a bill, which will help your carrier determine how much they can reimburse you for our sessions.
How much will therapy cost me?
That is a great question and is entirely determined by your specific insurance policy. Once I’m able to schedule you for an initial session, I’ll send over paperwork for you to complete. A portion of this paperwork will ask for your insurance information. Once I have your policy, I can then verify with BCBS what your copay/deductible information may be.
What is your self-pay fee?
I charge $140 per session. Choosing this route often allows us to move at your own pace, focusing on your specific needs without the constraints of an insurance provider.
Are there fees for late cancellations?
Yes. There is a $100 fee for any cancellation made less than 24 hours in advance of your scheduled appointment. The 24-hour notice gives me enough time and opportunity to offer the voided time slot to someone else in need.
What should I expect for my first therapy session?
If you are wondering what to expect in your first therapy session, please know that our first meeting is about genuine connection. We will discuss what brings you into therapy, personal goals and benefits you hope to accomplish on your healing journey. We will also begin uncovering longstanding narratives that keep you from authentic living. The biggest thing you can do to prepare for your first therapy session is to simply come as you are—you don't need to have all the answers yet.
How long is a session?
Sessions are 50 minutes long. This gives us ample time to both address recent updates and delve into deeper issues internalized within your nervous system.
What days are you open?
I see clients M-Th each week from 9am to 4pm. I offer in-person sessions in Mobile and Birmingham, as well as virtual therapy throughout Alabama.
I have more questions to ask about therapy. Can we talk first?
Absolutely. Please contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns, and I will be happy to get you the information you need.
